Griffen Handshake with DETENTION, Like Tyrants, and Talking to Shadows

July 27, 2023 @ 7:00 pm - 11:00 pm

Griffen Handshake is an alt-punk band forged in Pittsburgh, PA. Consisting of brothers, Millen (guitar, vocals) and Arjun Schuchert (drums, vocals), the duo released their new EP, “IN YOUR FACE” on all music platforms in December of 2022. Consisting of 5 fast, energetic tracks with both humorous and bold lyrical commentary, “IN YOUR FACE” marks a new territory and sound for the brothers. The band’s lyrics comment on mental health, social media, and the external pressures of carving out a path in life.

DETENTION is a high-energy pop-punk/alt-rock band from Akron, OH. Newly- released “Peachy Keen” is on heavy rotation at college radio stations and the video has more than 120K+ views on YouTube. “Faded, Not Jaded” is their 3rd single on SiriusXM Faction Punk followed by “56 Minutes” and “Good + Ready”. DETENTION crushed the main stage at the PorchRokr festival with 2,000+ fans and played the Launch Music Conference & Festival, Bloomfest, WonderStruck, WonderBus and WonderRoad. They are known for crowd-surfing fans and won the “Best Punk Band” at the Cleveland Music Awards in 2022.

Cinematic, brooding and neatly polished, Like Tyrants is a rock/post/emo band from Cleveland, Ohio. The origin of the band lies in Southern California in the early 2010’s. The band re-emerged in 2022 after a hiatus, with an offering of music called “A Paramount Loss of Sound”. The band has shared the stage with countless national and regional acts over the past 10+ years and played at some of the nations most notable venues.

Now in 2023 a new era of Like Tyrants has begun with the release of the Ghostworld EP, featuring two new songs that appropriately encompass the direction that the bands sound has evolved. Powerful and melodic choruses, hard hitting drums and driving guitars accompany both songs as the band has set their sights on a new level of songwriting and imagery altogether. Independent, solidified and intently focused, 2023 is gearing up to a year of vast expansion for the band.

TALKING TO SHADOWS is a quartet whose sound is a mixture of dream-pop and grunge; they’ve been described as “Mazzy Star and Hum having a baby” and “a combination of Juliana Hatfield and My Bloody Valentine.” Since forming in 2018, the band has released a steady stream of singles and EPs, and performed with Bootblacks, Mute Swan, True Body, and many more. The band will play this year’s Dark Castle Festival in Louisville to showcase its upcoming single “Soma.”
