About the Artists
JD Pinkus — JD Pinkus is an American bassist best known for his work with punk legends Butthole Surfers from 1985 to 1994 and since their 2009 reunion. In 1990, he and vocalist Gibby Haynes released Digital Dump, the sole album from their psychedelic house side project, The Jackofficers. After leaving Butthole Surfers, Pinkus formed Daddy Longhead, later diving into projects like Skinny Leonard and Areola 51, while also collaborating with artists such as Helios Creed and Danny Barnes.
He went on to co-found Honky, record with The Melvins, and perform in Pure Luck—a project where he trades bass for banjo and guitar. His creative evolution has continued through acclaimed solo releases like Keep on the Grass (2018), Fungus Shui (2021), and his 2023 collaboration with Tall Tall Trees, Ponder Machine. His latest, Grow A Pair (2024, Shimmy Disc), features guest musicians forming The JD Pinkus Bludnerbuss and continues his psychedelic banjo explorations.
